Functieomschrijving:

Determination of a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of one or more printers, according to the ISO 14044 methodology. It is possible to do this as a single graduation project (6-9 months for 1 student) or as a group project where a team of 3 students participates. Apart from the facts and figures, Océ is interested in a discussion and interpretation of the differeces between different printers (printer technologies).

Assignment description
Océ customers are increasingly aware to the environmental impact of printing, not just electricity usage, but also the other effects on the environment (waste, paper, water usage). As a pilot project, Océ is looking for a master student who can do a full life cycle assessment (LCA) of a printing technology. You will work according to internationally recognized standard methods (ISO 14044). You will collect information about the materials used in the printer, packaging, the printer-ink, the expected intensity of application and the end-of-life re-use and recycling options. You will need to make these factors quantitative and translate them into environmental impacts. The result of your work will be used to develop the next generation eco-design strategy for Océ's products, so our products will continue to be envrionmentally preferable for our customers.

Do you recognize yourself in the next description?
You are currently doing a master in integrated product design or industrial ecology. You think it is a challenge to improve the environmental characteristics of high-tech products, based on solid science. To be able to fulfill the assignment, you are good at quantitative analyses, whereby different aspects of a product are translated in comparable metrics like "energy" or "resource efficiency". You preferably have some knowledge about LCA methodologies.
