Modeling and simulating the printing process using Modelica
Job ID #: 114
Position Type: Student (Stagiair of Afstudeerder)
Location: Limburg (NL)
Education Required: Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs (WO/MSc. /MBA)
Functional Area: Research & Development
Functieomschrijving:
In this assignment you will be modeling the physical behaviour of the process area of a printer.
The focus will be on combinations of parts with interesting thermodynamic behaviour.
The modeling is done in the tool Modelica. You will have other tools at your disposal like the finite element tool Comsol, Simulink and Mathematica to experiment with different modeling approaches and compare the obtained results.
The real challenge is to use the Modelica model as a simulation of the printer, to test the actual embedded software. Several critical usecases can be defined and run on the simulation in an automated testenvironment. You will have the possibility to run the same usecases on a real engine and find out how accurate your models are.
Another question that should be answered in this assignment is whether the Modelica models improve communication between the disciplines. Is it possible that the mechanical discipline builds models of the parts to understand and refine the physics, while the same models can be used by the software discipline to test their software ?
